Esfera Armoniosa- Early music ensemble

   

Concluded his Doctorate degree at Universidad de Barcelona, Spain, in 2008, honored as Cum Laude for his research focused in the baroque guitar. He initially graduated in guitar at Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, in 1998, and continued his education in Spain at the Escola de Arts Musicals Luthier and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). Among his teaches are included Carlos Posada, Arnardur Arnarson, Xavier Díaz, and Mónica Pustilnik, and participated in master classes with Eduardo Fernández, Marco Socias, Nigel North, and Hopkinson Smith.

He is a member of the ensembles Música Ficta, Alfabeto, La Esfera Armoniosa and Alba Sonora, with which he has performed in Latin America, the USA and Europe. Highlights of his concerts include those for the First and Second Ibero-American Guitar Festival in Washington, The Golandsky Institute International Festival in Princeton, USA, Music at Emmanuel and Stour Music in England, Vestfold International Festival in Norway, the 14th International Festival of Early Music in Latvia, Monuments en Musique and Le Chant des Chapelles in France, Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico, the Sacred Music Concerts in Bilbao and the Music in the Churches Festival of Camino de Burgos in Spain, the Chiquitos Early Music Festival in Bolivia, the Arts Festival in Cali and the Lute and Guitar Festival in Colombia, and the International Sacred Music Festival in Quito, Ecuador. He has also participated in concerts organized by the University of Hong Kong, the Catholic Cathedral in Moscow and the Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango in Bogota.

With the ensemble Música Ficta he has recorded the CDs Del mar del alma, Esa noche yo bailá, and Sepan todos que muero, dedicated to 17th century repertoire in the Viceroyalty of Peru and repertoire found in the Cathedral of Bogota. These CDs were well reviewed by the specialized press and were released by the labels Arion (France), Arts Music (Germany) and Centaur Records (USA).

In 2008 he was a music judge in the exams of the program Young Talented Artists of the ICETEX, Colombia. He has worked as music director in two music schools in Barcelona and a full-time professor in Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and the Fine Arts Department of Universidad del Atlántico in Barranquilla, Colombia. He is currently the Undergraduate Music Coordinator at Universidad del Norte too in Barranquilla.
